Subject: BIOL 595T Ecology of Natural Areas - Canada
Credits: 3
Offered: Summer
Description: A very small portion of today's world remains in the primitive state. Constant encroachment on natural areas by man inevitably leads to deterioration and pollution problems. Abuse of these areas is due, oftentimes, to a lack of knowledge and understanding of ecology. At a time when educational goals are directed toward greater relevancy, it is appropriate to consider course work geared toward the individual's experience of a primitive wilderness for the purpose of: 1) becoming acquainted with nature and its beauty; and 2) realizing the value and importance of natural areas. While classroom fundamentals are an integral part of this study, complete realization of the goals must include the field experience. The wilderness is the greatest natural laboratory on earth. The lecture portion of this course meets 3 evenings on campus prior to a 10 day field trip to Quetico Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada.
