Description: Theory and techniques of human cytogenetics are studied. Lab exercises include cell culture, harvesting, and preparation of chromosomes for microscope examination and computerized karyotyping. Techniques include G-banding, C-banding, NOR staining, sister chromatid exchanges and DNA replication, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). This course is offered every summer. It is open to biology majors and others interested in clinical chromosome techniques.
