Dr. Henson contributes to new book on smoking hazards
Dr. Mike Henson
Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease, says the World Health Organization. According to their figures, it is responsible for approximately five million deaths worldwide every year. Tobacco smoking is a known or probable cause of approximately 25 diseases including cancer, heart attacks and strokes. The WHO says that its impact on world health is still not fully assessed. A new book offers leading edge research from around the globe with a focus on smoking cessation and the effects of passive smoking on health.
The book, Smoking and Health Research Frontiers, was published by Nova Publishers and includes a chapter co-authored by PUC Professor and Department Head, Dr. Mike Henson and collaborators from the University of Zagreb in Croatia, concerning the negative health interactions of smoking and associated heavy metal contamination, in human pregnancy
Chapter VI.- Assessment of Steroid Disruption and Metal Concentrations in Human Placenta: Effects of Cigarette Smoking; pp. 119-161
