Career Services and Faculty PartnershipsCareer Services and all academic departments at Purdue University Calumet share a similar mission: to prepare our students for meaningful and productive careers beyond Purdue. Whether students are gearing for graduate school or the workplace, they will benefit from the partnerships that are forged between Career Services and your department. Here are some concrete ideas on how we can work together for the mutual benefit of our students and our departments.
Career Services 2 Go - back to topCareer Services is now offering Career Services-2-Go a service specifically for members of the PUC community. If you will be away from class, Career Services professionals are available to make presentations about services, careers for students in a specific major, job seeking skills, interviewing, networking, internships, or other areas relevant to your course or their students’ future careers. Career Services professionals can also be available to make presentations to complement your syllabus, whether or not you are available to attend class, sometimes even on short notice. Presentations of Resume Development and Writing, Job Search, Correspondence, and Business Etiquette have been popular in the past. Email us at careerservices@calumet.purdue.edu, fill out a presentation request form, or call 989-2600 to schedule a presentation. Curriculum Development - back to topFaculty and staff may wish to collaborate with Career Services about integrating career-related topics into classroom curriculum. A Career Services professional can be assigned to each college or school to assist faculty and staff and to encourage collaborative programs to increase students’ career development. Special Events - back to topCareer Services professionals are available to assist faculty and staff who want to offer special events such as panels, guest speakers or job fairs for students in their departments. Career Services can also make recommendations about employers who have expressed interest in being more involved on campus. Referring Students to the Career Services, located in SUL 349 - back to topFaculty and staff are encouraged to refer students to Career Services. We work with students at every academic level from first year through graduate school level. Our services and resources cover a wide range of career issues including:
Career Coaching - back to topReferring students who may need extra help preparing for the workforce early in their academic careers can benefit the student and reduce their stress as they near graduation. 30-minute appointments to discuss individual career needs in a private setting throughout their time at Purdue Calumet can better prepare students for career success. Students may call 219-989-2600 or stop in to schedule an appointment. The student may have to wait one or two weeks for a vacant time. Career Services professionals with one or more appropriate master's degrees and several years experience will conduct these appointments. Programs and Events - back to topEvery semester, we offer a wide range of programs and special events covering topics related to career exploration, job and internship search, and preparing for graduate and professional school. Many of these programs are sponsored with academic units. Programs tend to be informal in nature, usually with no pre-registration required. Our home page lists current information about our job fairs and programs. We also conduct key career and internship fairs and Roundtables during the academic year and assist colleges and departments with other events. If you have an idea or suggestion for a new program or event involving Career Services, please contact us today. We are always open to new ideas and always willing to lend a hand.
