Degree Requirements

Pre-Business Core (36 credits)

The 12 courses listed below must be completed in the first three semesters as the pre-business core.  Students must complete these courses with a grade of C or better.  A student will be considered a Pre-Business major until these courses are completed.  The student may than request for his/her major be changed to one of the options available.  These pre-business courses must be completed before the student takes any of the courses in their option.

This program requires completion of the Pre-Business core listed above and the additional coursework listed below.  In all the stduent will complete, a general education component, a business core, and a business related minor. The remainder of the program is flexible, providing many creative alternatives for the student, including minors and options in other areas.

Career options with a bachelor degree in Business, Human Resources

Majoring in business prepares you to work in a variety of settings including government, and nonprofit. Most students who graduate with a business degree go to work immediately after graduation in jobs such as human resources specialist, assistant product manager, market researcher or financial analyst. Only 10 to 15 percent go directly to graduate school. Most work for two or more years before applying to a graduate program, and when they do, it is usually for a master's of business administration (MBA).

Graduation Requirements

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is a new graduation requirement for students who will be starting Purdue University Calumet in Fall 2008. This is a new approach to teaching; students go beyond theory based learning and explore ways to gain practical knowledge within their program of study. Students will enroll in two experiential learning courses while completing their degree. Experiential learning is offered through undergraduate research, internships, service learning, cooperative education, cultural immersion/study aboard, design project or practicum. Your academic advisor will assist you in selecting an experience that is right for you.
