Biography

Adel is currently completing his Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. His topic is a discourse analysis of the U.S. government's Arabic language radio channel which broadcasts throughout the Middle East. He is the recent recipient of a Dissertation Enhancement Award for his research. His book Al-Jazeera: The Story of the Network that is Rattling Governments and Redefining Modern Journalism has been described by the San Francisco Chronicle as "required reading for Bush's entire cabinet." The book was also listed among Choice's Outstanding Books in the Humanities. He is currently co-editing Edward Said: Emancipation and Representation which will be published by the University of California Press in 2005.

Adel is a frequent commentator on Middle Eastern affairs for national and international media.
