Biography
Dr. Goodnight is a Professor of Communication and the Basic Course Director.
She received Purdue University Calumet’s Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in
August 2007.
She earned her doctorate in rhetorical theory and criticism from
Purdue University. She also holds a M.A. in rhetorical theory and
criticism from Northern Illinois University and a B.A. in Communication
with an emphasis in Public Relations from Purdue University Calumet.
Dr. Goodnight teaches the basic communication course, persuasion,
interviewing, pedagogy, political and presidential communication, and
social movement rhetoric. She has developed several courses for distance
learning. Her research focuses on several areas including graduate
teaching assistant training, distance learning pedagogy, feminist
pedagogy, and presidential war rhetoric. She has served as a faculty
mentor for the University’s Distance Education Program since 2006.
She is the co-author (with Dan Dunn) of Communication: Embracing
Difference, Second Edition published by Allyn and Bacon (2008). She is
also the co-editor (with Sam Wallace) of The Basic Communication Course
Online: Scholarship and Application published by Kendall Hunt (2005).
She has authored many papers presented at the National Communication
Association Conference, The Basic Communication Course Directors’
Conference, and other national conferences.
