E-mails send to this address are checked regularly, and early detection of any e-mail virus outbreak could be crucial to stopping the threat before it becomes a threat to the campus.

Myth - Mac users like to think that just because they aren't running Windows on their computers, they are safe from having their
computers exploited by outside intrusion as Windows computers can be.

According to an article at http://www.techworld.com/, "Mac OS X doesn't stand out as particularly more secure than the competition,
according to Secunia. Of the 36 advisories issued in 2003-2004, 61 percent could be exploited across the Internet and 32 percent
enabled attackers to take over the system." This means that, just like Windows or Linux PCs, care must be taken to secure your
Mac computer from people who would like to turn it against you.

If you use a Mac running OS X, and have not or do not know if it has been updated, please visit http://secunia.com/ for updates to
your operating system that plugs the most critical security holes in your system. You'll be happier for it.

Many of the vulnerabilities that Macs share with PCs here on campus revolve around the network, as that is the route by which attacks can occur. In general, the same common-sense things you can do to protect yourself and you computer when using a PC also apply to Macs.
