Academic Drop and Readmission
Every student at Purdue University Calumet is
required to show effort towards mastering the subject matter of
academic courses to remain a student in good academic standing. The
mastery of the subject is reflected in a student’s grade in an
individual class and in a student’s overall grade point average
(GPA) in comparison to the grade
index. The cumulative grade index minimum level is determined by
the number of credit hours completed and
the minimum grade points required to stay in good standing
(see grade index chart on pages 33-34 of the
Student Handbook).
The first semester that a student fails to meet
the minimum grade points, as determined by the index, the student is
placed on academic probation. The student is placed on probation
even in the event of earning all grades of “F”. The academic
probation period gives the student a second chance to reassess
his/her approach to learning and choice of life and educational
goals. This is also an opportunity
for the student to focus on academic rigor associated with the
university setting by learning better study, note-taking, and
test-taking habits and time management skills. If at the completion
of the semester the student is on academic probation and he or she
again fails to meet the minimum grade points as required by the
index, then the student is academically dropped from Purdue
University and all regional campuses.
The first time a student is academically
dropped from the University he or she has to sit out and cannot
enroll in any classes at any Purdue University campus for the
following full semester (i.e. fall or spring semesters). If a
student is academically dropped more than once, then he or she
cannot attend for two full semesters. The summer semester is not
considered a full semester.
The time spent on academic drop provides the
student with the opportunity to assess his or her interest in
obtaining a degree, develop the skills necessary to do so, take
classes at a non-Purdue campus, and/or work. If the student does
enroll in and complete classes at another college or university, the
grades can be transferred back onto the student’s academic record.
In this case, the student will receive credit for the classes
completed, but the grades earned will not be averaged into his or
her overall GPA. A student who wishes to take classes at another
college or university and have them transferred back on his or her
academic record must ensure that the courses are transferable. A
student can find assistance for this on the Online Transfer
Credit Equivalency System at
http://www.calumet.purdue.edu/admissions/tces.html
Once a student has been academically dropped
and has sat out the required amount of time he or she is eligible to
apply for readmission through the Office of the Dean of Students.
In addition to completing the
Readmission
Application the student is required to pay a Readmission Fee of
$100.00, which is payable by cash, check or credit card at the
Student Accounts window in the Enrollment Services Center, Lawshe
Hall, Room 130. |
