What is E2=Q?
E2=Q. . . is a logo developed by Administrative Services to symbolize our quality initiative. Put into words, E2=Q. . . means "Exceeding Expectations is Quality."
In 1996, the Chancellor of Purdue University Calumet, Dr. James Yackel, asked each Vice Chancellor to perform an assessment of the services provided by their areas. In February, 1997, Administrative Services took on this challenge by educating themselves on the Baldrige Quality Award criteria for higher education. Approximately 30 administrators in Administrative Services were trained to become self-assessors using the Baldrige Criteria.
Shortly thereafter, Administrative Services adopted the Baldrige Criteria as their self-assessment method. During the summer of 1997, a self-assessment committee and two self-assessment teams were formed to conduct the assessment of Administrative Services. The criteria Administrative Services used to evaluate itself included:
-
Leadership
-
Information and Analysis
-
Strategic and Operational Planning
-
Human Resource Development and Mgmt
-
Satisfaction of Those Receiving Services
The self-assessment teams conducted interviews with employees of Administrative Services as well as customers from all levels of the University. The result of those interviews was a self-assessment report which identified Administrative Services' strengths and areas needing improvement. These improvement needs were prioritized and six categories emerged as the most critical.
A support structure and six teams were formed to address the improvement needs. The six teams were:
These teams engaged in an 18 month effort to plan the framework and infrastructure for implementing the Baldrige criteria into daily operations. Today, this infrastructure is being documented and deployed throughout Administrative Services.
