Elementary and Secondary Certificate Programs

These new programs are designed to provide practicing K-12 teachers with an opportunity to select courses to improve their knowledge and update skills in a variety of topics. The certificate programs will also provide salary advancement to the next class level by earning 15 hours. Many of these courses may be transferred to a Master's Degree program within the 5-year window.

Elementary Certificate

Foundation Courses (6 hours)

Required - EDCI 585 - Multicultural Education Diversity (3 hours)

Select ONE of the following (3 hours):

EDCI 560 - Educational Technology for Teaching and Learning

EDPS 591A - Integrating Students with Special Needs

Program Courses (9 hours)

Course selection will be coordinated with the advisor.

Courses may be 1, 2 and/or 3-hour credits, pass/fail will not be accepted, and graded courses offered at the service centers may be selected. The following topics may be included in the course selection.

  • Literacy

  • Elementary Methods

  • Technology

  • Classroom Management

  • Mentor Academy

  • Other


Secondary Certificate
