Secondary Education - IntroductionPLEASE NOTE: No new applicants will be accepted to this program after March 1, 2007. Click here for details. Designed with you in mind, this secondary education graduate program will refresh, renew, and advance your professionalism. You will have the opportunity to cultivate your content knowledge, your skill in curriculum development and evaluation, and delivery of instruction. This program is both for those of you who are degree-seeking candidates and those of you who are not seeking a degree, but may be seeking licensure coursework or enrichment courses. You will have the opportunity to: (1) share ideas with other professionals in the area, (2) learn about and collaborate on current topics within the content areas, (3) collaborate on new strategies for delivery of information in the classroom, and (4) share ideas and ways to ameliorate disruption and other issues in the classroom, issues with parents, and issues with school administrators. Our graduates and former students have found these classes to be worthwhile personally and professionally. The classes will provide an environment for professional activities that can make an immediate contribution to your teaching both in depth and breadth of teaching skills and content knowledge, and immediate contributions to the achievement of your students. The path to this classroom expertise and teacher leadership role begins here at Purdue Calumet in our secondary education program. However, this is NOT a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree, nor does this lead to an initial licensure. This handbook is designed to answer the questions you might have about entering the program, about what and how you will learn the skills, knowledges, and attitudes of a professional secondary educator, and, for those of you who choose to do so, about the requirements for graduation from and completion of an accredited secondary education program. Please read this handbook and, if you think that this career is for you, please contact one of our advisors. A list of advisors and advising times may be obtained from this website, or at the Department of Graduate Studies in Education office (989-2326) located in Gyte Annex X-122. In addition to these programs, Purdue Calumet offers programs in
