LaVada Taylor Brandon is an Associate Professor of Multicultural and Social Studies Education. A former social studies educator, she began teaching in secondary schools in 1991. Dr. Brandon completed her doctoral studies at Louisiana State University where she received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with concentrated emphasis in Curriculum Theory. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Fisk University and received a Master’s degree in Education Administration and Supervision of Instruction from Tennessee State University. Dr. Brandon’s areas of research include critical examination of race, class, gender, and language in k-12 teaching and teacher education experiences as well as oral history as classroom pedagogy. Presently, Dr. Brandon is writing her first book, Tapping the Power From Within: African American learners experiencing oral history as real education under contract with Hampton Press. Currently serving PUC as Department Head of the Department of Teacher Preparation, Dr. Brandon also teaches EDPS 285-Diversity and Education and EDCI 347 -Strategies for Secondary Social Studies Methods. |
