Welcome to the School of Engineering, Mathematics & Science
From the Dean
Thank you for your interest in the School of
Engineering, Mathematics and Science at Purdue University Calumet. We are
excited about providing you with an outstanding education in order to help you
to move on to the next step in your career. We provide the learning
opportunities, inside the classroom and out, that you would expect from a campus
that is part of the internationally respected Purdue University system. You will
be able to participate in cutting-edge research with our high quality faculty
members; utilize our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for hands on
learning, student projects, and research; and become a leader in our various
student organizations. As you learn more about our programs, I'm sure you will
agree that they are indeed world-class, and you would not be alone in that
opinion. For example, our engineering programs have been ranked in the top 50
universities whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or master’s by U.S. News and
World Report's annual survey of U.S. institutions.
The School supports innovative research by
faculty and staff, resulting in millions of dollars in research grants. These
projects range from international in scope down to addressing local issues that
directly affect the region. In addition to research, faculty members are engaged
in consulting and professional activities. This dedication has been recognized
with several members of the faculty serving in prestigious positions within
their professional organizations.
As a student, you will enjoy the School’s small
class sizes and extracurricular opportunities. I encourage you to participate in
some of the many departmental clubs and organizations. Professional advisors
will assist you in preparing a plan of study that supports both your academic
and career goals, while also balancing the demands of school, family, and work.
Many of our graduates work for major employers such as Arcelor-Mittal Steel,
Abbott Laboratories, Eli Lilly and Company, Bell Labs, Boeing, Siemens, U.S.
Steel, BP, NiSource and other leaders in industry, technology, research,
education and medicine. Others continue into graduate and professional programs
to prepare them to become leaders within their chosen professions.
Through our focus on experiential learning, you
will take what you learn and apply it directly to your profession, as well as
take your profession and apply it to your educational progress. This linkage of
“traditional” education and “real-world” experience is unique in the country and
makes a Purdue University Calumet education a degree like none other. As you
learn more about the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science I hope you
will visit our campus to experience how our faculty, academic advisors and staff
can help you plan for a successful academic journey. The faculty, staff, and
myself stand ready to help you achieve your goals. Together we can make this
journey with confidence..
