Biography:
Born in Indianapolis, Jane Campbell, Professor of English at Purdue University Calumet, received her B. A. from the University of Arkansas and her M. A. and Ph. D from Northern Illinois University. She is the author of Mythic Black Fiction: the Transformation of History (University of Tennessee Press, 1986). Mythic Black Fiction is a seminal work that continues to be widely cited. Professor Campbell’s literary criticism has appeared in Callaloo: A Journal of African and African American Arts and Letters, Obsidian, Black Women in America, The Oxford Companion to Women’s Writing in the U. S., the Dictionary of Literary Biography, the Heath Anthology of American Literature, Belles Lettres, and U. S. Media and the Middle East: Image and Perception. She co-edited an anthology with Theresa Carilli entitled Women and the Media: Diverse Perspectives, (University Press of America, 2005) and is writing a book about Bebe Moore Campbell’s novels. She recently co-edited an issue of the Global Media Journal (October, 2006). In October, 2006, she was invited to present a two-day program on women in the media for faculty and students at Columbia College, a private liberal arts college in Columbia, South Carolina. Professor Campbell is the recipient of both the Outstanding Scholar Award and the Outstanding Teacher Award at Purdue University Calumet, one of only two professors on campus who have received both awards.
