Teaching Opportunities for M.A. Students
|
Many M.A. students teach classes for the English
department or tutor in its Writing Center. Doing so not only earns those
students a discount on their tuition and a per-class salary, but also
provides them with valuable experience in rhetoric, composition, and
pedagogy.
To apply to teach for the English department, students
should be sure to indicate their interest in a “graduate appointment” on
page three of the Application for Graduate School, and follow up by
scheduling an interview with Dennis Barbour, the Department Head, at (219)
989-2645 to discuss their qualifications for the appointment.
Students appointed to teach are required to take
English 504 in the summer before they start teaching to provide them
with the training necessary to begin teaching in the Fall semester. All
teachers in the program benefit from extensive support throughout their time
in the graduate program. |
