Dong Fu, an ETIE student majored in Mechanical Engineering, has been interviewed by a manufacturing company for design engineer position.

"The senior design project provides me a good opportunity to learn from industry and to know what qualities are expected for a real engineer", Dong said.

Dong is the team leader of a real industrial project named Thermal Stress Analysis by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The final results of their project will be directly used for optimizing the design of marine diesel engine manifold.

In this project, Dong is in charge of CFD part which will focus on computing the temperature distribution of the manifold. He is definitely a hard worker. He always goes to the lab in the early morning. “Although I accumulated some experiences in machine design during my three years in BIT, it is completely new for me to do this project at the very beginning. The industrial advisor helps us tremendously. His valuable guidance always helps us to keep the project on right track. The CFD group in CFD lab (Anderson 152) benefits us a lot as well. People who have the same interests get together. The atmosphere is pretty nice.”

Equally, he emphasized the importance of teamwork. “It is lucky to have two great teammates to work with. They help me a lot.” With the efforts they made, their project is almost done. Because they have made a good job on senior design project, Dong, received an interview at the beginning of his second semester in Purdue Calumet.

At the same time, Dong got three A in all the courses he took last semester. He helped the Moonbuggy team design their vehicle using FEA also.
