Jingjing Gao's Speech 2007
Jingjing Gao
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to our ETIE 2007 certificate ceremony. My name is Jinjing Gao, the representation of Beijing institute of technology, the BIT group.

During the last year, I really learned a lot from this ETIE program. At the beginning, my English was not very good. I still remember, when I talked with professors, I couldn¡¯t even express my idea clearly. But now, after the two semesters studying in ETIE program, it becomes different. My English has improved significantly. I can feel that. I think that¡¯s also the reason why I can speak right here in front of all the audience. It shows how successful this ETIE program is.

For our BIT group, at first, we only choose the ETIE program for one semester. But after two months, all the BIT students strongly applied to stay here for one more semester. Thanks to Prof. Zhou and other faculty¡¯s effort, our wish became true. So why do we want to stay longer? That¡¯s because the whole ETIE program gave us a totally different experience than before.

At Purdue Calumet, we have more chances to do experiment by ourselves. This is very important for engineering students. Practice more, learn more. It greatly enhanced our hand-on skill and experiential learning experiences.

Because of this ETIE program, we were also able to use a lot of advanced equipment, such as data acquisition board, automotive robot, and virtual reality haptic devices. Meanwhile, we also participated in a lot of different activities, like the moon buggy competition, the 2007 science Olympiad, and the AIST conference, and the PUC student research day.

All the professors from ECE and ME departments are very nice. If we have questions, no matter what it is, they all tried their best to explain it. We really appreciate what they have done for us. There are a couple of Professors I would really like to thank by myself, Prof Gray and Prof Nnanna, without your help we wouldn¡¯t be able to work on the great water institute project. How wonderful Mr and Mrs Pierson have done to show us the beautiful sight of Chicago. And finally, especially thanks Prof. Zhou, she gave us a lot of help, from study problem to daily life. She really did a lot for our ETIE program.

All of our ETIE students are very glad that we can have this opportunity to study here in an America University and live in a western culture country. I believe, this year will become a memorable experience and one of the most important parts in our life. We also look forward to studying at PUC for our engineering graduate degrees. Before I finish, I would like to thank chancellor and vice chancellor¡¯s presence, thank international student office¡¯s help, thank our engineering departments and all the people who helped us in the past year.
