Swan Student Citizenship Award

Purdue University Calumet

    1. Purpose

    This award is to recognize Purdue University Calumet Chinese undergraduate students who actively become engaged with the local community through volunteering and community service.

    1. Awards

 

  1. The Swan Student Citizenship Award will be established with an initial cash gift of $10,000.
  2. It will offer up to six annual financial awards in Spring, 2009:
    1. First place will be awarded @ $1,500;
    2. Two awards will be awarded for second place @ $1,000 each;
    3. Three awards will be awarded for third place @ $500 each.
  3. Award certificates will be presented to the students by the Chancellor, a Vice Chancellor and/or their designate at the award ceremony in April, 2009.

 

    1. Student Nomination Criteria

 

  • 3.0 GPA or above during the past academic semester (Fall, 2008)
  • Full time students who registered 12 credits or more during the past academic semester between August and December, 2008
  • Exceptional integrity respecting professors, parents, and elderly to be evaluated by strength of recommendations
  • To receive consideration for this award, the applicant¡¯s permanent address, on the application for admissions, must indicate they reside in China.
  • Actively and intensively participated in community services and volunteer works to be evaluated by strength of recommendations

 

    1. Application and Review Process

 

  • Each interested student should submit a one-page application form (see attached) and a one-page cover letter highlighting his/her qualifications.
  • Each applicant must submit a one-page recommendation letter from both a fellow student and professor who is his/her current instructor in Fall, 2008. current course
  • Application package should be sent to the International Programs Office at ipo@calumet.purdue.edu by March 10, 2009.
  • The International Programs Office will organize a review committee to select the finalists.

 

    1. Regulations and Administration

 

  1. Awardees need to declare income on their Federal 1042-S Form (tax rate for international students is 30%).
  2. All awards have financial aid implications and should be reported to the Office of Financial Aid.
  3. The International Programs Office is responsible for managing and delivering this award.
