Wu Chencheng' Speech on 2009 ETIE graduate ceremony

Wu Chencheng

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

My name is Chencheng Wu. Today I am greatly honored of being given this opportunity to be on behalf of the 11 students from Sichuan University to share our experiences with you. And most importantly, to express our appreciation from the bottom of our heart.

At this exciting moment, I take with me the memory of 2005, when I received my score of College Entrance Exam. I chose Sichuan University, one of the top 10 universities in China. When others were struggling on choosing majors, I picked Electrical Engineering without any reservation because I’ve been dreamed to be an outstanding Electrical Engineer since I was a child. Driven by my interest, I received excellent academic performances there due to my dedication.

I take with me the memory when I first came here. As a Chinese student, I found it kind of hard to follow the professors very well. Also, expressing myself in English everyday was such a challenge that I would never have in China. Thanks to all these difficulites and challenges , I matured both in academic and life experiences this year.

I take with me memory of numerious holidays which never seemed to apply to engineering students at Purdue Unversity Calumet. They worked so hard on their projects and courses during the Labor’s Day, the Thanksgiving days, even Christmas eve. Thanks to them, I realized how important it is to study hard in order to fulfill my life-time goals, and never lose my passion.

I take with me the memory of Christmas Eve, thank you Professor Zhou for inviting us to your house, giving us the feeling of being in a big family. I take with me the memory of Chinese New Year, thanks to the Chinese Student Association, I enjoyed the great peformances even if I was thousands of miles away from home.

I take with me the memory of ECE301 class, thank you Professor Gopalan for all your exams and quizzes that seemed designed more to test our attitude to study than matering knowledge itself.

I take with me the memory of Senior Design, thank you Professor Kozel for helping me thoughout the whole process. Thank you Professor Constantin for helping me whole-heartly even if I am not your student.

I take with me the outlook of our future, when we are all outstanding engineers in our areas, who still remember ETIE times, the best memory in college date.

Thank you!
