Wu Bin' Speech
Wu Bin
Good afternoon everyone, this is Bin Wu. Today, I feel honored to represent 7 students in the CSU group to tell you some of our experiences.
Ten month ago, we were selected from the best student group by the CSU and interviewed by a representative from Mittal Steel to participate in the ETIE program. During this ten month period, we experienced so many "first time" things in our life. Taking myself as an example, I did my first cooking, first part time job, my first research paper, and first presentation (in English of course).
After so many "first time" things, I feel like I really "growing up" and learned a lot. Academically, I managed to get 4.0 GPA last semester. Also by collaborating with my teammate in senior design project, I better my communicating skill day by day--that is why you can understand what I am talking about today. The score of 99 in Toefl examination also came with this progress.
One of the best experiences is the senior design project. As other students from CSU, I was very fortunately to work on a real life project from Mittal Steel. My project is to optimize a reheat furnace using CFD. I found CFD as my most interested field and have learned a lot from Prof. Zhou and industrial advisors. This March, I participated in the Student Research Day competition and fortunately got the first place. With this, I was selected to participate in the Purdue System Student Research competition also won a champion of undergraduate group in engineering field.
Besides studying, I got the runner-up in the intramural eight ball tournament last semester and joined Highland Community Band as a trumpet player. Our recent concert was on May 6th in which we did a good job. What a pity you just missed that.
From our experiences through the ETIE program, we are growing up so quickly and firmly. We are very grateful to our super faculties and staffs who have gave us so much support and made the whole program operate so well. What I must say is, if we are the best, only because you all make us the best. We may never be able to reciprocate those efforts for us. We can not thank enough to our chancellor, Vice Chancellor, our admission office, engineering departments, our embassy here: Marsha Gordon and all the faculties and staffs who gave us so many helps.
I must say that it is the ETIE program which provided us the great opportunity and made our dream become true. We are proud of being a student at Purdue Calumet today and look forward to continuously studying as a graduate student here. I firmly believe that, one day, Purdue Calumet is going to be proud of us, ETIE students.
Thank you very much and have a nice day.
