Wu Xiang's Speech

Wu Xiang

Hello, Ladies and gentlemen. My name is Xiang Wu. I feel so honored to be the representative of the NUAA group.

Xiang in Chinese means soaring above the sky. The pop singer Faith Hill has a famous song named there you'll be. It has the lyrics," You were right there for me. In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky". I'd like to modify it a little bit. If I could soar above the sky, it is because so many people who support me are right there for me.

First I'd like to thank my parents. Though miles and miles away, they are always supporting me. "You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains; you raise my up, to walk on stormy seas." I'm really grateful to my parents for what they've done to me.

My great gratitude also goes to NUAA, my university in China. I took the first three years of college there. NUAA gave me comprehensive education and taught me how to become a qualified university student.

With the basic knowledge and experiment expertise learned in NUAA. I am eager to pursue higher education abroad. The ETIE program is a good chance for us. The chancellor, Prof. Chenn Zhou, Marsha Gordon and the admission office contribute a lot to the program. I'd appreciate their help.

This program not only satisfies my curiosity but also helps me to upgrade myself further so as to keep up-to-date with the rapid developing technologies. It provides opportunities for the full scope of my individual development. I got 4.0 GPA and awarded the semester honor in the fall semester, 2006. I worked in the PUC virtual realty lab and successfully finished our senior design this spring semester with Zhenpeng Zhao. The accomplishment of our senior design benefits from the enlightenment of our advisor, Prof. Lucy Yang. Her inspiring insights and patient instruction have facilitated us much through our senior design. I'd like to give my sincere thanks to the ECE Department of PUC as well as all my teachers.

I also develop in depth understanding of the western learning style and improve my communication skills. We did a poster in the student research day. As one of the tour guys of the engineering open house, I showed our research to the local high school students. They were excited about the research of virtual reality and we also got some useful suggestions and feedback.

On the other hand, I took part in the intramural ping-pong tournament. I was so excited that I got the champion. The newspaper Chronicle said, "Not even Forrest Gump could have beat Xiang Wu at this year's intramural ping-pong tournament."

“We have joy, we have fun, we have seasons in the sun.” We'll cherish the precious memory of the college life. Thanks again for those people who support us. You guys are great.
