About Lingua Franca
Lingua franca is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as a
language used as a medium of communication between peoples of different
languages. With this in mind, those involved in creating the multi-lingual
literary magazine entitled Lingua-Franca are dedicated to presenting prose,
poetry, and other works in a number of languages, as well as photography
and art.
To do this, student workers have spent the 2004-2005 academic year
gathering literary pieces and art from students throughout the campus. As
well, faculty and other readers have spent time reviewing and editing
(though the editing was limited to major mistakes) these pieces. Through
hard work, long nights, and dedication this magazine has come together as
a work that represents both the uniqueness and diversity of our campus.
We invite you to join us in celebrating the premier issue of Purdue
University Calumet’s Lingua-Franca. Please share this magazine with
friends and family, and feel welcome to submit something for our next issue
in 2005-2006.
