Degree-Seeking Student Admission Requirements

Degree-seeking students are those who seek to study for a master's degree or an educational specialist degree.

Applicants for graduate degrees must apply online for graduate study at Purdue Calumet. Students are asked to submit their application four months before (definitely no later than one month) prior to the semester of desired admission.

Applicants are first evaluated by a departmental committee at Purdue Calumet. If advanced for admission, the application is submitted to the Graduate School in West Lafayette for final processing and approval.

The basic requirements for admission to the Graduate School are:

1. A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Graduation index of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale (individual departments may set higher indexes).
3. Academic ability for graduate work.
4. Specific departments may have additional requirements; please contact the department directly for details.

Application Process

1. Complete an online application using the Online Application button to the left, or you may go to http://www.gradschool.purdue.edu/admissions/apply.cfm.


1. A $55.00 application fee will be assessed. You must pay this fee before you can be fully admitted into a degree program. This fee is payable by credit card online or by check via U.S. mail.


• If you choose to pay by check, please allow 7-10 days before submitting your application. **Please be sure to save your application so that you can return and submit it at a later date!
• You will make your check payable to: Purdue University
• You will mail it, with the voucher found in the online application, to: Graduate School Admissions, Purdue University, Ernest C. Young Hall, Room 170, 151 S. Grant Street, West Lafayette, IN 47906-3560

2. In addition to the online application, the student must complete and submit the following items to the specific department to which they are applying:


1. Three letters of recommendation. (Download Recommendation for Admission to Graduate School - G.S. Form 3: PDF |DOC)
2. Statement of Purpose. A statement of purpose is an essay of approximately 300-500 words explaining your purpose for undertaking or continuing graduate study, your reasons for wanting to study at Purdue, and your professional plans, career goals, and research interests.  You may also explain any irregularities or special circumstances applicable to your background, and elaborate on your special abilities, awards, achievements, scholarly publications, and/or professional history.
3. Two official transcripts from any previous college and university work completed. (Download Request for Official Transcript - G.S. Form 5: PDF | DOC)
4. Additional evidence of academic performance and/or other documents as required by the department.
5. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and/ or Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) may be required by the department or school.  Please contact the department to which you are applying for information.

Grades

Success in graduate study requires high quality academic performance.  Only grades of A, B, or C fulfill Graduate School requirements.  A student must maintain a 3.0 GPA (or B average), during graduate coursework in order to graduate.

Graduation Requirements

Plan of Study

Graduate students must submit a Plan of Study to the Graduate School one semester prior to the semester in which they plan to graduate. The Plan of Study must be approved by their academic advisor before submission to the Graduate School.  The student and the advisory committee for the department develop the Plan of Study together.  The Plan of Study outlines the student's courses and credit hours.  The student is responsible for completing and submitting the Plan of Study to the Graduate School. Graduation Deadlines

Graduating on time is very important to most students.  Therefore, a student must be aware of the rules and the deadlines set forth by the university and the academic department.  Many rules and deadlines that apply to our Graduate School can be found on the Purdue West Lafayette web site at http://www.gradschool.purdue.edu/calendar/calendar.cfm?type=Deadlines
