The International Media Center provides the following services to PUC faculty members in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures:
Project Management and Support
The International Media Center should be your first point of contact for technology-based projects. These might include creating Web resources such as a WebCT Vista course or other Internet-based site; producing digital audio, video or still images; audio or video recording — any project involving technology and the teaching of languages, literatures and cultures. We can help you to determine your needs, frame the project in detail, arrange for material and personnel support, or help coordinate the support you need from other campus resources such as the Technology Education &
Consulting Center, Classroom & Broadcast
Technology Services or Computer
Operations
& Accounts.
Digitization of Materials
The IMC is committed to the digital dissemination of instructional materials to the extent possible. Advantages to digital media include universal access, preservation of original realia, and quality of transmission. We can help you integrate digital media into your teaching and arrange for network storage of digital video and audio materials.
As a matter of policy, the IMC will only digitize video and audio materials within the limitations of educational fair use or with the written permission of the copyright holder, whether this pertains to a music CD, feature film or off-air recording from television. Please read the Purdue University copyright policy as it pertains to digitally- transmitted audio and video materials.
Materials Acquisition
The IMC is also committed to the acquisition of video, audio, software, etc., needed by language programs. If there is a movie, music or software title that you just must have, we might be able to get it for you. Priority will be given to requests that affect the largest number of students.
Reserves for Classes
The IMC provides shelf space and circulation for materials placed on reserve by faculty members for their students’ use in the lab, during regular IMC hours of operation. All materials placed on reserve must adhere to Purdue University policies on copyright and educational fair use. Items on reserve will be associated with a bar-coded unique identifier to ensure their return to the IMC front desk.
Training and Consultation
The IMC provides three types of learning opportunities to FLL faculty at PUC, including part-time instructors and affiliated departments: group training (workshops and brown-bag sessions aimed at improving skills in a particular area of technology use), one-on-one training for faculty members, and online training modules on a variety of topics.
The IMC offers announced opportunities during the academic year for all FLL faculty members, as well as group training opportunities upon request for specific language sections or subsets thereof. Faculty members may also request individual training sessions with IMC personnel – all such requests should be made through the Request for IMC Services Form.
