Faculty

A statement should be included with each syllabus regarding the Honor Code. In addition to their own responsibilities, students should be aware of the commitment made by the instructor to maintain academic integrity. Students should further be assured that all students will be treated in an equitable manner. Academic integrity takes root, is nurtured, and grows in the classroom.

Rights and Responsibilities of Faculty

1. The instructor has the right to collect evidence as limited by university policy and civil code. Refer to the Student Bill of Rights.
2. The instructor should not search a student’s personal belongings to get notes or any other type of evidence. The following statement appears in the Student Bill of Rights:

10.10 Freedom from Illegal Search and Seizure
The student has the right to freedom from illegal search and seizure of person and property. No contractual arrangements with the University shall be interpreted as waiving the right.
