MBA-MIS Option

Management Information Systems is the art and science of gathering,
collecting, storing, analyzing, datamining, and disseminating information for
useful decision making leading to strategic advantages. Most companies
increasingly rely on strategic Information Technology (IT) for competitive
advantage in a fast-paced, global environment. Organizations are migrating
their business-to-business and business-to-consumer communication
infrastructure towards a global, Internet-based environment. This direction
highlights the importance of electronic business as a powerful force that
links together enterprises, service providers, and customers in a virtualbusiness
web environment. The MIS option prepares MBA students for
careers in management with an emphasis in IT.

The MIS option can be completed by taking five MIS courses (refer to list of
courses below) together with the required courses for the MBA. This
curriculum is based on the MIS model curriculum developed by the
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Association for
Information Systems (AIS). Currently, MGMT 680 (Introduction to
Information Technology) is a part of the MBA core. MBA students who
choose the MIS option are therefore required to take MGMT 680 together
with four MIS electives from the following list of courses:

MGMT 545 每 Systems Analysis and Design
MGMT 546 每 Decision Support and Knowledge Management
MGMT 547 每 Computer Communications Systems
MGMT 590 每 E-business Strategies
MGMT 590 每 E-business Applications
MGMT 590 每 Advanced Project Management
MGMT 590 每 Advanced Database
MGMT 683 每 Principles of Information Systems
