New CIS Degree
The new major of B.S. in Computer information systems is available in the department
of IS. The CIS curriculum includes a sequence of business courses to complement
the technical skills that students obtain while solving real-world application problems.
Computer Information Systems (CIS) is the study of the design, implementation, and
integration of computer systems. Almost every profession is touched by information
systems in some form. The CIS curriculum prepares students for a variety of information
systems positions.
A growing area of study:
The CIS curriculum follows the ABET guidelines for accrediting information systems
programs. Students take courses in current technology and business functions with
an emphasis on the information systems courses.
Your career opportunities:
According to Thomas Hoffman, Computerworld, 01/03/08 there is a shortage of some
computer information skills. According to their survey the number one skill in demand
is computer programmers/application developers. The number two skill in demand is
project management Other career opportunities include systems analysts, and positions
in human computer interaction. As the older generation of programmers is retiring,
these jobs need to be filled in addition to the positions created by the growth
of new technology.
