Welcome to the Department of
Information Systems
Information systems (IS) have become a vital component of successful organizations.
Business professionals all around the world rely on information systems in performing
their day-to-day activities. An understanding of the effective and responsible use
and management of information systems is thus important not only for managers, but
for all knowledge workers in today's global information society.
The work of the IS function is to use hardware, software, networking technologies,
and resource management techniques to facilitate communication and collaboration
both within and between firms, and to transform data into a variety of information
products for decision-makers, shareholders, and consumers. As it is considered a
formal functional area in business operations, IS constitutes an essential field
of study in business administration and management.
The Department of Information Systems hosts two programs of study within the field
of IS: Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Management Information Systems (MIS).
Whether you are deciding on a course of study or considering the addition of a second
major, I invite you to explore our site for details on these two programs and for
other information relevant to your education and future career.
On behalf of the faculty of the Department of Information Systems, I wish you a
productive and successful academic experience.
