HOW TO ORDER A LIBRARY BOOK LIBRARY MATERIALS ALLOCATION.
Shortly after the fall semester begins, the Library sends each
faculty member, via Distribution B-1, a notice announcing the allocations
for all departments, grouped by discipline. This allocation is formula-based
and considers use, previous allocation, credit hours, and national
data on the cost of periodicals and books. These discipline-based
departmental allocations are determined by the Assistant Library Director after consultation with the Vice Chancellor for Information Services.
ONLINE FORM.
Requests may be submitted online via the Library's Web Site. From
the main page, choose Electronic
Library Services, then Acquisitions Services, and click on "Purchase
Order Requests." Simply complete the requested information
in the form and hit "Send Request." You must indicate
category of use in the order.
ORDER CARDS.
Requests may be also submitted on 3 x 5 "order" cards.
A supply of cards can be obtained by calling 989-2430. The dead-
line for submitting requests for the current academic year is the
last business day of February, except for Teacher Education Resource
Center (TERC) orders which must be submitted by the end of April
of the previous fiscal year. Students may submit requests via the
suggestion box near the Circulation desk. Again, you must indicate
category of use on the order card.
SUBMIT ORDERS TO LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS.
Unless the department has designated an individual to coordinate
book ordering, faculty members are to submit the requests directly
to the Library Acquisitions Desk; online form requests are automatically
routed to Library Acquisitions. (Please note: periodical subscriptions
require review by the Library Collection Development and Information
Access Advisory Committee.)
STATUS REPORTS.
The department heads and school deans receive status reports on
or about December 1st and February 1st. The report allows department
heads to monitor the acquisitions activity and alerts faculty that
additional orders are needed if the departmental allocations are
not being expended.
ORDER ARRIVAL NOTIFICATION.
The book order cards with call numbers are returned to the requester
with a notice specifying the last date a book will be held at the
Circulation Desk before it is placed in general circulation.
