PERIODICAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
ORDERING. Consider if you really need to submit an order or if
interlibrary loan or document delivery would serve your needs.
Requests should be submitted on the 3 x 5 library order cards or via
the online ordering form. Since a subscription is a continuing
commitment, all requests must be reviewed by the Library Collection
Development and Information Access Advisory Committee Subscriptions
are placed by the calendar year with a common expiration date of
December 31st whenever possible.
FUNDS. Approved requests will be processed by the Library if a
department still has a free balance in its discipline's allocation.
Based on a formula that considers use, previous allocation, credit
hours, national data on the cost of periodicals and books, and
interlibrary loan requests, the discipline-based departmental alloca-
tions are determined by the Director of Library Services in consulta-
tion with the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
CANCELLATIONS. FIRM DECISIONS TO DELETE PERIODICAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
MUST BE COMMUNICATED TO THE LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS DESK BY MAY 1 OF
EACH YEAR. The deadline cannot be extended since our dealers'
renewal deadline is June 1. Requests to drop existing subscriptions
are to be signed by the department head or by an officially
designated coordinator and sent to Library Acquisitions Department,
Library, "SFLC" Building.
If a department's subscription budget estimate for current
subscriptions exceeds its established allocation, the Library will
contact the department. The department will then be required to make
cancellations by the June 1 deadline.
