PURDUE UNIVERSITY CALUMET
TEACHER EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTER
The Teacher Education Resource Center (TERC), located in the
Library (C-224), is designed to support the teacher education
programs by providing students with current library materials
used in grades K-12. The Library allocates an annual materials
budget which is administered by the Associate Reference Librarian
S. A. Rezak with the advice of the Education Department.
The Center's major acquisition emphasis in recent years has been:
--textbooks on the Indiana Textbook Adoption lists
--children's literature and young adult books including
fiction and non-fiction works
--audiovisual kits, slides, filmstrips, and to a lesser extent
curriculum guides as local school districts make them
available
--children's & young adult periodicals
LISTED IN ONLINE CATALOG. Arranged by Library of Congress
classification and numbering approximately nine thousand titles,
the TERC collection is listed in PULSE, the NOTIS Online Catalog,
by author, title, subject, keyword, and call number. Newly
cataloged additions are included in the monthly New Book List
available in a machine readable format on the LAN.
TEXTBOOK REVIEW SITE. Purdue University Calumet has been
designated a K-12 textbook review site by the Indiana Department
of Education. The new, non-circulating mathematics books
displayed in the fall of 1997 will be cataloged for circulation
in Spring Semester of 1998,. In Fall of 1998,. the new, non-
circulating science books will be displayed and cataloged
for circulation in Spring Semester of 1999.
NON-PRINT MATERIALS. Topics include language arts, math,
science, social studies, physical education, and early education.
Audiovisuals are listed in the online catalog and are shelved by
subject with the TERC book collection.
OTHER RESOURCES. Newly acquired curriculum guides from local
school systems are cataloged and shelved with the books by
subject.
FACULTY BOOK ORDERS. Faculty orders for new materials to be
purchased in the 1997-98 academic year are due June 27, 1997.
Budgeted for FY 96-97 is $5,043.
PROFESSIONAL STAFFING. The center is open the same hours as the
Library, and a professional librarian is available weekdays,
evenings, and weekends. Users wishing the personal assistance of
S. A. Rezak (C-203E) should make an appointment or call ahead
(989-2677). A half-time Graduate Aide coordinates the ordering
for the Education faculty and makes special presentations to
classes upon request (989-2335).
