28th Annual Conference on the
Improvement of Mathematics Teaching
October 2, 2009
The 28th Annual Conference on the Improvement of Mathematics Teaching is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2009. Because of a marked increase in attendance at last year’s conference, our 2009 conference is moving back to Hammond to The Calumet Conference Center at Purdue University Calumet. Additionally, besides inviting all area K-12 teachers, we are encouraging administrators to take part in the exciting reform minded sessions planned for this year’s event. Our keynote speaker will be Catherine Fosnot - Professor of Education at the City College of New York and Director of Mathematics in the City, a national center for professional development located at the college. She has authored or co-authored many books and articles on mathematics education, most recently the Young Mathematicians at Work series and the accompanying professional development materials funded by NSF. The conference will also feature breakout sessions targeting various grade levels and will conclude with a panel of teachers and administrators revealing their behind the scenes stories of implementing reform curricula in their schools and the resulting impact on everyone involved. Last year’s attendees will welcome back our keynote speaker Michelle Stephan along with her school administrators as panel members.
Each participating individual or school should submit this registration form. Schools should include the names of participating teachers. Due to the interactive nature of the conference, participation is limited. Registration forms along with payment (or purchase orders) of $65 per person should be submitted by Friday, September 11th. Late registrations requiring an additional $10 fee will be accepted between September 12 and September 25th. A late fee of $20 will be added to registrations received the week of the conference as space permits.
DISCOUNT: If 4 or more teachers from the same school submit their applications together, each teacher’s registration will be discounted $5 (from either the regular $65 fee or the $75 late charge fee). This discount applies only to applications submitted together in one envelope and is not applicable to applications received the week of the conference.
Please print and fill out this registration form and return it with payment as soon as possible. A confirmation notice will be sent immediately upon receipt of paid registration. In addition, participants will receive further conference information in mid-September regarding check-in procedures. If you have questions regarding the registration process, please contact the Student Services Business Office at (219) 989-2986. If you have questions regarding the conference sessions, call the PUC Mathematics Department at (219) 989-2273. We look forward to seeing you in October.
