The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University Calumet is to serve Northwest Indiana by:
The Mechanical Engineering curriculum provides a broad
education in the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering.
Students may pursue a general program or may choose a
specialization in areas such as Thermal and Fluid Sciences,
solid Mechanics, or Mechatronics.
The educational objectives of this program are to provide
each graduate with:
Mechanical Engineering programs must demonstrate that their graduates
have:

Outcome b: An ability to design and conduct experiments, and as well as to analyze and interpret data.
Outcome c: An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
Outcome d: An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
Outcome e: An ability to identify, formulate and solve.
Outcome f: An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
Outcome g: An ability to communicate effectively.
Outcome h: The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global/societal context.
Outcome i: recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.
Outcome j: knowledge of contemporary issues.
Outcome k: An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
Outcome l: An ability to apply their engineering knowledge to solve industrial problems.
