Students, organizations honored at PUC awards banquet
Thirty-five Purdue University Calumet students and three student organizations received awards at the recent Purdue University Calumet Student Organization Awards Banquet.
The University’s Office of Student Activities & New Student Orientation recognized several students with Above & Beyond Certificates of Appreciation, as well as Gregory Collins, Hammond resident and supervisor of Audio Visual Services and Academic Computing, for commitment and dedicated service.
The Office of Student Activities also gave out several Activities and Community Service Excellence (ACE) awards. Two ACE Advisor Awards recognized Professor / Head of the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering Chenn Zhou and advisor Tyanna McCann.
Also receiving an ACE Award was Hobart resident Stephen Lynch, outgoing president of the Student Government Association.
Lynch, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication–public relations May 20, also received the Purdue Alumni Association-Calumet’s Outstanding Student Award.
Other students recognized were: Marija Dobratic of Griffith, Joshua Fleishman of Highland, Miranda Mathena of Merrillville, Sean Shideler of Highland and Lynch with special Dean of Students awards; Otis Brewer of Highland, Joan Manns of Highland, Jenna Okonoski of Schererville and Lynch, “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 2007;” and Shuang Wu of Hammond, UPS Outstanding Student Organization Leader award.
Additionally, the Purdue Alumni Association – Calumet recognized the Black Student Union and the Financial Management Association for Students as the most active student organizations. The College Mentors for Kids organization also received an award for outstanding community service.
“The awards really acknowledge student leaders and also student organizations who contribute to campus life,” Purdue Calumet Director of Student Activities Gloria Roldan-Schieb said.
