PUC students present at joint Science, Engineering & Math research meeting
Fifteen Purdue University Calumet students presented academic research at the recent Joint Meeting of the Eighteenth Annual Argonne Symposium for Undergraduates in Science, Engineering and Mathematics and The Central States Universities, Incorporated (CSUI) Research Conference at Argonne National Laboratory.
Additionally, Purdue Calumet Assistant Professor of Chemistry Joseph Bularzik was elected President Elect for 2008 and President for 2009 of Central States Universities Inc., a consortium of 11 Midwest universities dedicated to improving instructional and research programs in the sciences, mathematics and engineering for faculty and students.
The Purdue Calumet student presenters included 12 undergraduates and three graduate students.
Undergraduate presenters were: April Buckley of Chicago; Veronica Castellanos of Hammond; Dawn Clemons of Valparaiso; Marija Dobratic of Griffith/Bosnia; Soumya Gupta of Munster; Jacob Ham of Lowell; Kris Lozanovski of Crown Point; Xi Lu of Hammond/China; Nancy Newman of Merrillville, Tom Roesel of Crete, IL; Kelly Sepulveda of Matteson, IL; and David Turpin of Hammond.
Graduate student presenters were: Yingmeng Huang of Hammond/China; William Walker of Portage; and Bin Wu of Hammond/China. Also presenting was Purdue West Lafayette doctoral student Lijian Sun, who is conducting research with Purdue Calumet Professor of Mechanical Engineering Chenn Zhou.
Overall, 34 Purdue Calumet students attended the joint symposium/conference, which featured oral presentations by students and faculty from more than 20 universities throughout the Midwest.
