NEWS RELEASE:
Visclosky to discuss proposed South Shore expansion 1/30
Rep. Pete Visclosky (D-Ind.) will discuss the proposed South Shore commuter rail line expansion, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Purdue University Calumet’s Student Union & Library.
“This is a great opportunity for students to attend an event where they can learn to help support an economic development that is vital to their futures in the region,” Richard Rupp, head of Purdue Calumet’s Dept. of History and Political Science and associate professor of political science, said. “Congressman Visclosky has worked hard to secure federal funding to improve and possibly expand one of the area’s most vital and progressive means of transportation—the South Shore rail line. And he has secured the funding primarily to help the young and educated workers of tomorrow.”
Visclosky will respond to South Shore-related questions following his presentation.
Sponsoring the presentation are Purdue Calumet’s Dept. of History and Political Science, The Citizens for the Extension of the South Shore Line (CESSL) and Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society.
“We’re very excited to work with the University to bring the Congressman to campus,” CESSL Co-Director Greg Bales said. “The students and the public need access to their leaders through events such as this.”
Other information can be obtained by contacting Purdue Calumet’s Dept. of History and Political Science (219/989-2347 or 800/HI-PURDUE, ext. 2347) or by visiting the CESSL web site www.CESSL.org.
