NEWS RELEASE:
High school teachers can apply by 5/15 to attend free, summer science camp at PUC
May 15 is the deadline for high school teachers to apply to attend a free ASM Materials Camp designed to engage students in applied science through hands-on learning. The camp will be hosted by Purdue University Calumet June 23-27.
The camp will provide high school teachers of mathematics, science and industrial arts with simple labs and experiments, using low cost, everyday materials that can be integrated into existing lesson plans to stimulate student interest in math, science and engineering.
While there is no charge to attend, the camp is limited to 30 teachers. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Applications are available on line at www.asmfoundation.org.
Participating teachers will design a learning module that addresses the academic standards they use in preparing programs within their subject areas. Those who complete the camp will receive four continuing education units.
Camp faculty will be comprised of two experienced high school “master teachers” who previously have taught Materials Science courses and have helped develop the innovative ASM approach to hands-on learning of applied science principles.
Camp funding is being provided by ASM International, ASM International Calumet Chapter, Association for Iron and Steel Technology Midwest Chapter, BP and the Indiana Space Grant Consortium.
