Free college information programs for high school students, recent grads is Friday (6/27)

Purdue University Calumet’s Office of Admissions will host two, free college-bound summer information programs Friday, June 27—one at 9 a.m. for high school seniors-to-be this fall and the other at 1 p.m. for Class of 2008 high school graduates.

The 9 a.m. program offers a reality show theme. Dorothy Frink, Purdue Calumet associate director of admissions and recruitment, said the program is intended to be a fun and informative gathering for students who are considering their options after high school.

“It’s a great way for students, regardless of their college choice, to learn the reality about choosing a college,” she said. “They’ll learn what happens during the admissions process at most colleges, how to find scholarships and the truth about some college majors.”

Attendees also may take a campus tour of Purdue Calumet while learning what to look for on tours of other post-secondary schools.

The 1 p.m. program is for recent high school graduates who have not finalized their college or post-secondary school plans. Frink said the goal of this program is to make students aware of their educational options after high school.

“It’s a reality check intended to send the message, ‘Hey you should be enrolled in a post secondary school somewhere,’” she said, “and since they’re not, why not Purdue Calumet?”

Attendees will receive priority admission application processing, information about different ways to pay for college, career counseling and a campus tour.

While both programs focus on college planning in general, Frink explained that both also will offer information about Purdue Calumet.
