NEWS RELEASE:
3 fitness majors receive scholarships
Three Purdue University Calumet fitness management students have received $1,000 scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year.
Junior Rachel Hofer of Whiting has received the Jennie Hamilton Endowed Scholarship. Senior Dea Mayo of Munster and junior Corri Priebe of Schererville are John Friend Scholarship recipients.
The Hamilton Scholarship honors a Purdue Calumet fitness management alumna who died in a 2006 bicycle accident while preparing for the Ironman triathlon. The Friend Scholarship is named after Purdue Calumet’s former athletic director who served the university for 21 years.
In the application process, all three students wrote essays about their plans to pursue careers as fitness professionals.
Both scholarships are awarded annually to juniors or seniors majoring in hospitality and tourism management with a fitness management option. Nursing majors also may apply for the Hamilton Scholarship.
Further information about either scholarship can be obtained by contacting Purdue Calumet’s Office of Health, Recreation and Sports at 219/989-2540 or 800/HI-PURDDUE ext. 2540, or the Office of Advancement at 219/989-2323 or 800/HI-PURDUE ext. 2323.
