NEWS RELEASE:
Free seminar dedicated to women’s financial empowerment
A seminar designed to financially empower women of all ages and involving a Purdue University Calumet professor will take place at the Lake County Public Library Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The free seminar is co-sponsored by The American Association of University Women, Calumet Area Branch and the Lake County Public Library.
According to The Institute for Women’s Policy Research, Indiana women earn 50 percent to 70 percent of what the state’s men earn. The seminar is designed to educate women on how to properly handle finances and to take steps to lessen the wage gap.
Joanne Rincker, Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor senior financial advisor, will give the keynote address and lead a workshop about financial strategies for women in mid-life and retirement.
Rincker has more than 15 years of experience in leading workshops that help women achieve their financial goals.
Colette Morrow, Purdue University Calumet professor of English and former women’s study program coordinator, will lead a workshop on building and managing credit for women in their teens and 20s.
The seminar expands on Purdue Calumet’s podcast development program, funded by a national American Association of University Women Campus Action grant. The free podcasts are designed to educate female students about increasing their earning capability.
Registration and other information can be obtained by contacting the Lake County Public Library at 219/769-3541, ext. 317.
