NEWS RELEASE:

Experts to discuss U.S.- Iran relationship 9/25

A panel of Middle East/Iranian experts will discuss and debate pros and cons of war and negotiation between the United States and Iran, Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at The Calumet Conference Center at Purdue University Calumet.

Panelists include Christopher A. Preble, director of foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute and author of Exiting Iraq: Why the U.S. Must End the Military Occupation and Renew the War Against Al Qaeda; Eli Lake, senior reporter for the New York Sun, whose work has focused on national security, diplomacy, the Middle East and intelligence; Richard Rupp, associate professor of political science and interim department head of history and political science at Purdue Calumet; and Peter N. Kirstein, professor of history at Chicago based St. Xavier University, and peace and academic freedom activist.

“In a view of the ongoing talks about yet another disastrous and prolonged war in the region, a reasoned and balanced discussion that would result in better understanding of the prevailing issues, vis-a-via the U.S.-Iran political impasse, is simultaneously significant and urgent,” said Yahya Kamalipour, director of the Center for Global Studies and professor and head of Purdue Calumet’s Department of Communication and Creative Arts. “It is our responsibility to inform and educate our community about such timely and vital issues.”

The Calumet Conference Center is located at the south end of campus one-third mile north of Interstate 80/94, three blocks east of Indianapolis Boulevard, south of 173rd Street.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Global Studies, , and co-sponsored by Purdue Calumet’s Office of Research and Professional Development International Programs.

Refreshments will be provided. Admission is free.
