PUC students, faculty providing flood relief assistance
Purdue University Calumet students, faculty and staff have organized an effort to assist northwest Indiana flood victims.
Coordinated by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Melinda Dalgarn, 11 students and faculty/employees embarked on clean-up efforts in Munster Friday afternoon (9/19) in coordination with Office of North Township Trustee Frank Mrvan, Jr.
Two additional groups of faculty, staff and students, including members of the campus’ Social Justice Club, have volunteered to assist during two four-hour shifts Saturday (9/20) morning and afternoon.
Staff members within Purdue Calumet’s Office of Student Affairs have been stationed much of today outside the south entrance of the campus’ Student Union & Library, signing up volunteers to assist in the relief effort. Monetary donations also are being accepted at the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (Lawshe Hall, Room 352 – 219/989-2367).
Home Depot, Jewel/Osco of Munster and Gus Bock’s Ace Hardware have contributed cleaning and disinfectant supplies, as well as buckets, mops, bleach and rubber gloves.
Student First, provider of Purdue Calumet’s Peregrine Express bus shuttle service to and from campus, donated a driver to transport volunteers to clean-up locations Friday. Paige’s Business Ventures of Illinois, which provides transportation for Purdue Calumet students to and from The Mansards apartments, has donated a vehicle and driver to transport Purdue Calumet volunteers Saturday (9/20).
