British national debaters coming to PUC Oct. 21

Two award winning debaters from the British National Team will team up with two Purdue University Calumet students to debate whether human cloning should be legalized, Tuesday (10/21) at 10:30 a.m. in Alumni Hall of Purdue Calumet’s Student Union & Library.

Purdue Calumet’s Crystal Watson, a psychology major from East Chicago, and Laura Roach, a public relations major from Joliet, Ill., will debate the topic with Britain’s Ed James and Derek Doyle. Each British debater will be teamed with a Purdue Calumet debater.

“Our student debaters have the opportunity of a lifetime to match debating skills with some of the best university debaters in the world,” Purdue Calumet Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Ron Kovach said.

Admission is free. High school debate teams can reserve seats by phoning 219/989-2792 or 800/HI-PURDUE, ext. 2792.

The is debate is sponsored by Purdue Calumet’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Department of Communication and Creative Arts, the Center for Student Achievement, and The Best and Brightest Scholarship Program.

The British debaters are touring several colleges and universities throughout the United States.
