PUC Fitness Center named official SilverSneakers Fitness site for older adults

The Purdue University Calumet Fitness Center has been designated an official site of the nationally recognized SilverSneakers Fitness Program for older adults.

The SilverSneakers Program endorses a combination of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and classes, seminars and other socially-rich programming to help older adults advance good health.

SilverSneakers members 65 and older who are Medicare-eligible and enrolled in a Medicare supplemental insurance plan through Humana, AARP, Anthem or other approved health insurance providers qualify for a free membership at approved and participating fitness facilities nationwide, including the Purdue Calumet Fitness Center.

Fitness facilities that are designated official SilverSneakers Program sites are screened to offer a safe and friendly environment, experienced and credentialed staff, varied and high quality exercise equipment, and excellent customer service and accessibility.

“The Purdue Calumet Fitness Center staff is proud to be a part of the SilverSneakers Fitness Program, the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults,” Purdue Calumet Fitness Center Coordinator and exercise physiologist John Bobalik said. “Although new to our geographic area, this cutting edge, nationally-recognized program affords our Fitness Center staff the opportunity to provide seniors with a great community service, as well as a place to exercise to improve their health and well-being under the direction of degreed and certified fitness professionals. It is a situation in which everyone wins.”
