Motivational conference for students with special needs is Friday (10/31)
The Fifth Annual Transition Conference for students with special needs, parents, mentors, administrators, counselors, staff members and others about choices in employment and education, will be held Friday (10/31) at Purdue University Calumet.
The conference, featuring representatives from Lake County social service organizations and agencies, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Calumet Conference Center, located at the far south end of campus.
“The goal is to provide information to empower students to make better decisions for their future,” Frederick Williams, director of Student Support Services at Purdue Calumet, said. “The more they know, the better decisions they will make.”
The conference will feature Raymond Montgomery, a Purdue University alumnus, who has been named a community hero for overcoming his disability.
Dance Detour from Chicago, a dance company comprised of modern dancers, some of whom have disabilities, also will perform.
The Lake County Transition Development Coalition will present the third annual transition scholarship to a special education graduating senior.
The conference is sponsored by The Lake County Transition Development Coalition, Indiana Protection and Advocacy, and Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities.
Individuals interested in attending should RSVP by phoning 219/989-2727 or 219/484-7601.
