51 freshmen receive full tuition Chancellor’s Scholar Awards for 2008-09 academic year

Fifty-one recent high school valedictorians and salutatorians—nine from Indiana, 40 from Illinois and two from Michigan—have received full tuition Chancellor’s Scholar Awards to attend Purdue University Calumet this fall.

In addition to full tuition and related fees, the award covers a stipend for books and supplies and 50 percent of living expenses at Purdue Calumet’s campus apartment complex, The University Village. To maintain the scholarship and stipend, students must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average while enrolled as a full-time student.

Indiana recipients and their high schools, listed alphabetically by their community of residence are: Demotte: Katie Rose (North Newton); Dyer: Amy Poortinga (Heritage Christian); Gary: Carlos Hynes (Campagna Academy); Griffith: Jacob Ballah (Calumet Baptist); Hammond: Alexah Graziano (Gavit) and Anna Weaver (Morton); Hobart: Margaret McCroskey (River Forest); Lake Station: Candice Wojnaroski,(Edison); and Whiting: Craig Fruth, (Clark).

Illinois recipients and their high schools listed alphabetically by their community of residence include:  Calumet City: Justin Michalowski (Thornton Fractional North); Elk Grove Village: Joann Holmen (Elk Grove); Grant Park: Katie Detloff, Jessie Martin and Heather McCaslin (Grant Park); Lansing: Timothy Graves (Luther East) and Hannah Verburg (Heritage Christian); Melrose Park: Francisco Madrigal and Olga Garcia (Proviso East); Meredosia: Rachel Boyd (Meredosia Chambersburg); Mooseheart: Jake Stegeman (Mooseheart); Oak Forest: Lauren Adduci (Tinley Park); Steger: Sharon Kozy (Bloom Trail); and Wilmington: Kayla Weck (Wilmington).

Illinois recipients from Chicago high schools are: Josue Almeida (Luther South); Shawanna Amos (Frederick A. Douglass Academy); Samantha Banks and Pierre Jones (Julian); Jacqueline Bernardo (Senn); Regina Clark and Andrea Hathorne (Harper); Porsha Frost and Courtney Johnson (Chicago Intergraded Charter School-Longwood); LaTeea Collins and Jose Gomez (Ace Tech Charter); Yasemine Garmon (Steinmetz); Sharjunae Grayer and Abojenae Grayer (Al Raby); Ja’shar Hartley and Amelia Hernandez (Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville); Shirley Henderson and Nakia Williams (Robeson); Maria Johnson (North Chicago); Ashton Moore (Leo); Delisa Perry and Nahseem Williams (Howard Area Leadership Academy); Darrylan Saddler and Lavance Turner (Hirsch); Bianca Santiago (Kelvyn Park); and Jose Tenorio (Kelly).
