NEWS RELEASE:

Student receives award to travel abroad this spring

Portage resident David Rains, a Purdue University Calumet hospitality and tourism management major, didn’t surprise his professor when he received a $1,000 Global Education Award to study abroad during the 2009 spring semester.

“I was thrilled to hear that David had been awarded the Global Education Award,” Geralyn Farley, professor and Hospitality and Tourism Management Program coordinator, said.

Rains also received the 2008 Recognition of Service Excellence Award for Hospitality Professionals of the Year by the Porter County Convention, Recreation and Visitor Commission.

Requirements to receive the Global Education Award included submission of a 500-word essay titled: “What an International Educational Experience Means to Me,” and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 while enrolled as a full-time student.
