Winners Announced in Second Annual Competition

Brogan Pharmaceuticals, a start up company developing drugs to improve the detection and staging of cancer in children, took first place in Purdue University’s second Opportunity for Indiana business plan competition Thursday, Dec. 1 at Purdue University North Central.

Brogan, which operates out of the Purdue Technology Center in Merrillville, will receive $25,000 from the competition, which attracted over 100 entries when it began in August. Second place and $15,000 went to Little Locks, Hair Cuts and Toys for Kids of Dyer; third place and $10,000 went to IT3 of Crown Point.

Fourth place and $3,000 went to Farm Direct Meat of St. John. Fifth Place, and $2,000, was awarded to higHDef.tv of Highland. Prize money for fourth and fifth place was donated by the law firm of Hoeppner, Wagner and Evans LLC of Merrillville and Valparaiso, http://www.hwelaw.com.


First Place - $25,000

Brogan Pharmaceuticals is an Indiana Limited Liability Corporation seeking to develop, commercialize and distribute pharmaceuticals for the treatment and diagnosis of human disease. Brogan Pharmaceuticals began product development January, 2005 and has recently obtained two FDA orphan drug designations for its first product. The first product has been illustrated to improve the detection and staging of cancer in children. Brogan Pharmaceuticals is working with the FDA to expedite the regulatory review process for the drug’s marketing authorization.

Second Place - $15,000

Little Locks is the first kid’s salon/toy shop in Northwest Indiana. Kid’s get haircuts while watching cartoons and sitting in themed cars. Clients receive a toy, a balloon and lollipop with every visit. Even waiting is fun in our playroom. With a child’s 1st haircut the client receives a photo certificate and a lock of hair. The dreaded haircut is now an anticipated event. Birthday parties and manicures are among our array of services. Our unique toys round out a unique retail experience.

Third Place - $10,000

IT3 provides and protects technology for the 3rd Sector. Our non-profit customers receive new computers and network systems, three years of tech support, and assistance in obtaining nonprofit pricing for software. Non-profits can “have their cake and eat it too.” They will increase their technology while paying less than a third of what it would normally cost to do so. Our customers get the benefit of “All New” and the experience of “Worry-Free.” IT3: We help those who help others.

Fourth Place - $3,000

Fifth Place - $2,000


higHDef.tv is a start-up, full-service production/post-production, company in Highland, Indiana. The services include: – but are not limited to - independent features, corporate/industrial films and regional commercials. higHDef.tv will be the first full-service high-definition production company in Northwest Indiana. higHDef.tv will also provide the unique product: indoor electronic billboards. These digital electronic displays can be installed in high-traffic viewing areas, such as airports, retail stores and restaurants.

2005 Business Plan Competition Semi-Finalists
