Battle of the Bands
Battle of the Bands, co-sponsored by Purdue Calumet's Student Life and Activities
and Thunderclap Recording Studios, was held on Saturday, October 22, 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
in the PUC gym located in the Fitness and Recreation building.
Sixteen local bands competed for recording time and a professional consultation with
Thunderclap Recording Studio and for gift certificates from Rubino's Music Center. The bands that played are: "Victorian Vanity," "One Shot One Kill,"
"Kuntempt," "Underkutt," "Kings of the Short Bus," "Made Mecca," "Rusta Lillypad," "The Clifford Sessions,"
"The Agenda/Armor," "Tayla Made," "Beyond Words," "Mind," "Abeo," "A Broken Sequence" and "Johnny & the Rockers."
The judges for the event were Tom Lounges, Arts and Entertainment writer for The Times, executive editor of Midwest BEAT magazine and music director of "Night Rock" on WXRD 103.9-fm; Mark Mybeck, chief songwriter, vocalist and co-founder of the band, Nomad Planets; John Carpenter, owner of Thunderclap Recording Studio and songwriter/producer; and Eric Lambert, member of the acoustic duet, "The Tar Heels," songwriter, guitarist and recording artist for more than 30 years.
The results were as follows:
- 1st Place: A Broken Sequence
- 2nd Place: Rusta Lillypad
- 3rd Place: Victorian Vanity
- 4th Place: Johnny & the Rockers
